Since the gardens were first started in 1999, there has been a strong emphasis on recycling.
An extensive system has been put in place to re-direct all run-off water to an extensive wetland system to prevent enriched run-off into the surrounding area. A series of solar-powered pumps operate some of the fountains and water features. Most of the materials used on site to build the gardens have been recycled, many from the local area.
